Q: Tell us about yourself! What made you consider a career in tech?

I'm originally from Barcelona, Spain and worked for 11 years in Apple retail. I've always been involved in technology, but I wanted more career growth beyond retail. A few of my friends left their jobs to participate in bootcamps, and now they develop apps or work in backend development. Their progress inspired me to make a career change. I've moved to Mexico in the meantime, started a new journey and embarked on my own bootcamp course with Altcademy.

Q: How did you decide to start a bootcamp?

Initially, I was in a preliminary course, which offered a free bootcamp if you passed the exam, and they deduct the cost from your future salary. However, following my boyfriend's advice, I switched to Altcademy due to the positive reviews and affordability. The other bootcamp seemed appealing but it was considerably more expensive.

Q: Is this your first time learning to code?

Yes, indeed! I took to coding surprisingly well. It's really cool and I'm excited about the future possibilities.

Q: How are you finding the program and how do you tackle any challenges?

The program has been great so far! I appreciate that the course breaks down information into digestible pieces and provides plenty of exercises for practical application. There have been instances where certain aspects were a bit tricky due to my native language being Spanish, but in the tech world, English is often the main language, so that's an added learning bonus for me. When I hit hurdles, I send queries to my mentor, David, who responds promptly and clearly.

Q: What are your plans and goals after completing the program?

My immediate goal is to finish the bootcamp as soon as possible and start working. At present, I'm in Mexico and will most likely remain here for a year due to my partner's work commitments. My aim is to have a job secured by the time I return to Spain. The exciting part is that there are so many avenues in tech to explore. My ultimate dream job would be to specialize in Swift to develop apps for iOS and macOS.
