Q: Tell us about yourself!

My name is Bailee. I'm currently in Seattle. I joined the military when I was 18 and went into the legal industry afterward. I have always had an interest and passion for tech and I figured “Why not start now and do something you’d love?” Now I am finally taking the steps to join the tech industry.

Q: Is this your first time learning to code?

I started learning how to code by myself in April of this year. I had a little experience with HTML/CSS before I started and actually became quite proficient in it, but when I began learning JavaScript I felt I needed more help. I found Altcademy in July and made the commitment to join the soonest cohort. I have always wanted to learn how to code, and I'm glad I finally took the plunge!

Q: Why did you decide to learn coding?

I decided to learn coding because I want to make beautiful apps and websites. I don't have to be working at a FAANG (​​Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta and Microsoft). I just want to work in the field and am even interested in freelance work. What really got me motivated is when I found out that a friend's husband got a remote job as a software engineer. He has no high school diploma or college degree - he used to be a graphic designer. He went to a coding bootcamp and within a year, he got remote work. So I felt like it was also possible for me!

Q: How do you like Altcademy?

I love Altcademy! The instructors are great and super responsive. The material is very thorough and well thought out and helps the learning process go smoother because of the great examples and the practice exercises. I have already learned so much and am growing more and more confident everyday in my development skills.

Q: What are your future plans?

I really want to get a front-end web developer job by the end of this year. I have an MBA and I think that I would be a great asset to any company. I am a hard worker and I am always willing to learn new things. I would love to work for a company that is innovative and that values its employees.
