Q: Tell us about yourself! What made you consider a career in tech?

My background is actually in the arts. I currently work as an academic advisor, but I knew I wanted a change. Initially, I thought web design would be the right path, but speaking with a close friend who works in UX Design piqued my interest in coding. It felt like the perfect blend of creativity and analytical thinking, a bit like solving a giant puzzle.

Q: Is this your first time learning to code?

Yes, it's my first time learning to code, and I started this journey with Altcademy.

Q: Why did you decide to learn coding?

While exploring options, Altcademy checked all the boxes for me. I wasn’t keen on returning to school or attempting to learn using piecemeal online resources. Altcademy offered affordability, time flexibility, and a structured curriculum.

Q: How are you doing so far in the program?

I was a bit slow initially in the HTML and CSS parts due to finishing another degree. However, now that I am totally dedicated to the program, I am trying to keep pace according to the given schedule. I've just started with JavaScript and am finding it a bit challenging, but I enjoy it nonetheless.

Q: How have you been dealing with challenges in the program?

Initially, I was a bit hesitant about reaching out for help. But later, I began messaging David, my mentor, more frequently and found his advice and guidance extremely useful. I find that the program is meeting my expectations, and I am learning a lot.

Q: What are your goals and plan after completing the program?

After completing the Altcademy program, I'm considering exploring job opportunities within the coding field. While UX Design does interest me, for now, I am more attracted to the coding side of tech and would love to work in this field. I am keeping my options open for now, and based on my progress with the program, I am hoping to find a job sooner rather than later.

Hanna's journey with Altcademy is currently underway, but she is already making strides and showing a strong resolve.
