Q: Tell us about yourself!

My name is Jack. I used to work full-time in a marketing agency and started coding on the side in the downtime between accounts. As I got further along I thought more and more about quitting and doing a bootcamp full-time.

Q: Why did you decide to join Altcademy?

My elder brother has worked in software sales for years. He took an in-person bootcamp focused on networking skills in finding a software-related job, so he learned basic Rails and plugged his software development knowledge into a sales capacity. After talking to a few of his colleagues and professional full-stack web developers, they agreed that a full-stack curriculum would be the most beneficial. They were also very honest about their experiences learning the basics, specifically hitting roadblocks on a daily basis. Empowered by the advice, I’m learning every day how vital tenacity is when learning to code. In late December 2020, I left my job and joined the full-stack Altcademy program. I’m optimistic that I’ll learn to think like an engineer with all the hands-on exercises. There’s a lot of help and support from my peers and professors, mainly reminding everyone to keep going and keep pushing themselves and each other. It’s an incredible and uplifting feeling when you can finally get through a persistent roadblock.

Q: What’s your end goal?

Upon completion of the program within the next 4 to 5 months, I want to have the skillset and portfolio to be employable. I would like to contribute as a software developer in the farming sector, helping small-scale farmers increase their scale and reach to customers living in urban areas.
