Q: Tell us about yourself

My name is Fernanda. I live in Medellín, Colombia. I am married and I have a one-year-old baby. I started learning about data science and analytics 3 years ago. After working with data for a couple of years now, I have gained my interest in writing software and building software applications. I learned about Python and got a Google scholarship in Udacity on learning how to make apps. I also found out about FreeCodeCamp and did some courses there. On the side, I also took some mini courses in Udemy.

Q: Given your experiences with online learning, how do you like about Altcademy?

I read reviews of online bootcamps, as I don’t want to do in-person bootcamps. I saw good reviews in Altcademy. I love the way Altcademy lessons are structured. The curriculum is well-planned. It’s important to follow the designed path of learning.

The assignments are really nice because you get to practice what you’ve learned, and get feedback from mentors. After assignments, which are usually small pieces of exercise, there are bigger projects to work on. And, at the end of course completion, we get a digital certificate.

What I love about full-stack web development is that you can learn about different concepts that work interdependently. Concepts are like building blocks. It’s easier to build on great foundations.

Q: What are your future goals?

I want to become a full-time developer and work for companies. Afterward, I want to do my own thing. The software industry is growing in Colombia but we lack talent here. Medellín is considered as the silicon valley of South America.

My plan is to finish the program in 4 to 5 months. I want to do it right and understand all the concepts. I feel my passion for programming. I can spend hours and hours doing it!
